Yeah absolutely we've we just we just started this skills USA competitions those who would stills USA is to say it's a nationwide program that. It gets kids involved in my skilled trades and in different opportunities. You're mainstream arm. Jobs I am what skills USA. Yeah it really wasn't prevalent turn around here. And what what the foundation did last year is we actually hosted a skills USA competition we had two schools chairman Tom Hartford. I'm actually set up at Milwaukee no work that's where the site was we had the two schools compete on building I shed. And is since it was an eight hour day using their skills not only Tom. Building the structure but actually wiring it electrically while. It was is really cool to see these kids work together as a team and now and one of the two. I'm a bunch of nary a members' side Mary's certified members. Judge the competition. We selected a winner at the end of the day. And then the foundation actually helped pay for the winners trip to the national competition in Louisville so. Well that's awesome yes and so last year when you would the first you guys did this year at two schools you do it again this year. How many schools are involved so this year we have five schools involved could for you Yad hits gray who are. Our goal is to double and we actually got a fifth school to to answer at the and so. We've got our Barnum Velde Germantown in Berlin Kimberly. And then Blair Taylor so a couple these schools are actually common quite a ways while this competition. Are more hosting it again at whether tack this year. It's a little bigger space 'cause out as you've got I schools now same thing they're gonna come in on a Thursday. Are more action we actually do like reception meet the kids talked some about careers in the trades. They get their tools setup and our inning and then Friday date become an early 7 o'clock Marlins 7 o'clock start. And they'll be building a structure until two. We give these kids that are high school a chance compete in some to likes those US. I think it's important because will you know week in and youth are your prime very familiar with this because this is probably a topic that's on your show every week if not every other week. In terms of the look at our members need. Employees you know where we are really. We're we're having a tough time with the skilled trades and we have to. And I think our start as the foundation and asthma watching Mary is to get into these high schools to get in their younger enhanced and to get past the stigma of a career in the trades is being a vocational consolation. And it's made it like second fiddle and it doesn't make sense to a guy like me. Now and add any you know and and these kids can come out of high school in turn agree waged not have a college long right and really you don't and he has some pride in what they're doing absolutely and if you like to work with your hands and you like to see an end result and see a smile on customers base which is honestly why. I'm in the trade Z is you know that's one of my fear of parts is at the end of a project to see what we've created and disuse satisfaction and customers that's. And he was so how did it was such a proud thing for him to say look my hands we'd do I did this. This is important for for everyone to get involved in so it's you know have kids start this early intended to be part of the process because you know as a consumer. Right now you're facing you know extended time lines for projects when were when were coming into year project it's gonna take us longer. As we have to have more trade partners involved if you don't have people on staff that can do work. You know your projects enemy more money because we we have to pay our guys top dollar. There are there are few and far between that are out there. Which citrus in and and and when you said you say you probably talk about this every weaker every other week it's almost every week. And we'll talk a lot of polyps. Companies that are looking a high are used to beat Tom a few years ago when we started to show that two guys and say hey look if you've been in the trade. And and you're thinking about maybe your displaced or you want to make a move talked to me. And then it was if you look if you just have a high school education and you and your willing to come to work. Talk to me now where it's hey look. If all of this is if you're willing to give up and get out of that be a labor in the beginning. But you want to learn to do this or you wanna learn to be a Carpenter or plumber electrician look we can get she's there. But you just have to be willing to get up worked five sometimes six days weeks and work cart. And in an ad that's that's your head in the nail right on the head and and I always tell people. We can train aptitude we can't train attitude unbelievable and a and that's that's really where it were comes from a starts from new in the work ethic in the it grown up in the McGovern hustle. Again with my father June what he did the worst word in the English language was lazy. He again seven years old and say don't let the neighbors think you're lazy I'm Sabbah. I really did you get that grass cut before 8 o'clock or they're gonna think you're lazy and I'd be like well. But it just the little kid and but that was his deal and as we got older he really put instill that. And you look at at any of these kids is not in in my family any of these these did a siblings. There's always one among they're all working 23 jobs are there they're working hard at what they do went. And the hours nobody ever complains about it in fan sports which really funny you'll get a kick out of this. Cured Entercom almost everybody gets on the truck to ponson. And I don't and they asked me why and and I remember working a Colts food store and my dad would say that to you that they're giving you that check. That means you accomplish something. And think that you learn that you weren't a threat but then think the company for allowed you to work there and don't ever let them say you're lazy and so. I'd like you said did that first phone call when they reach out to us is essentially you know we kind of assassin fewer questions you know where the projects located what's your vision in the spaces which is like to do. We also kind of talk budget to so there were in the same ballpark in terms of what you look consist suspend for the project. On you know if everything checks out and it's something that did you want us you know we always ask you which alike just come on take a look at it. If souls of those questions pan out then we come on take a look and it's if you know free hour of our time are we just come out there we do we actually get a physical look at the space. We take some measurements a lot of pictures. And basically off of this visit were able to use then go back to the the drawing board so to speak at our office our designer will come up with with a plan. And then we had to come into the office for an hour and just kind of walk you through an estimate on what the project. Would entail what the design would look like etc. and then from there we kinda. That's kind of where we put put the line down where you know if this looks good in within your budget. We heavy assignment to sign an agreement and we take it to the next step Morey actually get down to the nitty gritty of finalizing the design. The selections and and continue tooth contract. Perfect and then once you once you start. And look there's in every project I would assume. There is something that that doesn't go exactly as planned whether it's a timing thing or it's all of a sudden the consumer they're the client. Says you know what I thought this is what I want it. But I really want best and and you guys understand that obviously yeah. No I you know there's there's flexibility in what we do and you know whether it be you know upgrading and and and possibly a change order or. Just working with that Kline in terms of their budget in off all the sudden something comes back and might be. In old to hire this is and what they'd they'd like to you know wall work was done to get get to where they want to be. You know each situation dictates kind of where the remodeling proud project's gonna go. Ways one of the things Jews who research for this that I didn't really think about when we're gonna talk about this but converting their garage tour room. Is is something that seems to be fairly popular at this point. It is who we. You know Odyssey that ten years that we need to do we actually just did a garage out in nine in Dallas men that we we Tenet teamed up with with a trial all company called national gypsum and sat it was actually. And then they they went up. And he's got these collectible cars that they have an elevator. That goes up and they can. To liver the cars very whole entire thing about it and so when he's having his meetings downstairs. You can look up and see these art app. Yeah I might add are mechanic actually has some those same things got a loft upstairs. For his kids just a parent goal up there and do you know pool table up there and they just it's it's kind of more for their kids to hang out after school. And then he's got the three Carter has a lorries actually at a actual car lift and it might soon and as well I mean it's it's just a fantastic barrage. Well it and I think that's what do you know when you to a basement the basement doesn't you know even though obviously it's part of the home did the basement can take now hold characteristic or personnel you can take on your personality. So you don't have to make it look like the rests a house. You can do whatever you want down there you know we seat we see people doing anything from. You know will start doing like wine cellars down there you know really nice are. Yeah and you know and there's a lot of investigation it goes in that too because I've received got to take a look at home values and what you know obviously but the project's gonna cost and where your home belies going to be after you don't want to. You want to overdo it unless like it like I said he you know if you're in their for the long haul and that might not be consideration but. You still have to look at the home values and what what the potential is to sell that that property around the half. Well it really depends on the furnace to you know if the furnaces -- where it's still wherever it's still exhausted the chimney and obviously you're keeping a chimney but a lot of times too. At that point. You know if you're put in new growth on and also and you have a high efficiency furnace and now vents to decide your home when you don't really have a use for their chimney anymore. Right here able to teach you know you're gonna do a new roof anyways so let's just take the chimney down.
