Some of the best high school basketball in the seat he's played right he'll ring southeast Wisconsin. It's time to hear some of the best high school basketball coaches should be area. This is the Wendy's varsity blitz high school basketball coach he should know Brazilian boy. Can't see stores now here's 1057. FM the fan's high school insider. Big time might make. So when Carson was high school basketball coaches show. As always presented by your local pick and save stores I'd sports Radio One 057 FM the fan. I'm Mike figure Renault excited about the show. Yet one guy never want to coach against. Another guy I got a ton of respect for and I certainly have a lot of respect for the first guy meant. When Joseph Russ was at Bryant Collie I'd. When no part of that that group that year after year one cool part. Of that group my favorite grant cut around college stories I would have to see more set to minicamp guy's losses sectional file or double or triple overtime. Ruth I'm Chara under number and it's it's a long time ago it was her long time ago but I said I called coach Walsh out. Have Thomas though I want no part around Colin. Call him at the end of the first first over Thomas who hunt no part of this group meant. I don't think yet acute over 61 and you'd these kids just need meant. It and it was it was fun to be a coach and just going watch. You're your your team's play I haven't gotten a chance he Brookfield east yet this year but I would assume. That you guys are running similar stuff. Yeah I mean we're running exactly what Iran where around Cali obviously we have more size and a few more athletes with this unit bona. And Lou we've stuck to the semi auto five out motion and then yeah trying to find ways to get teams that are found in our strengths obviously. Are tired other guest here in the reason I got these two guys and now this guy's he's spent little time walking that little bit but I I went on my pro wasn't since these two guys that are kind in new. The watch Kyrie maybe back to Milwaukee area are for coach James Ed Ed crafted. It's good to see US cellular last night. I went to west a freshman. Offered to Germantown play our craft to last sent to freshen future returns pretty get yet they are they they put it all freshman team last night they they did and you know. It's my first night out we give the boys at at Morton who through the night off and and my wife's it's who are we doing then that is some good to skew the freshman. It had I was it was like it a little bit want half time the referee went down. I saw that I came out to watch in what happened he he passed out. He passed out use them for minor stews kitten over the flu and it was really warm in that gym in the basement my home and he went down at half time. So they call 911 and people that add add Ted Germans had to decree chug Jack in his staff for phenomenal. But so that took a little while suitors is the way. And then the clock went out for a while. All kinda issues I think I've but I believe that that referendum passed all of us that should be taken care job taking care Rafa you know what is all David it's all taking care of let him run down today's show for a minute a 1045 Billy Schwartz. Cystic coaching Carroll universe he's gonna join is just before getting on a bus. Get to a game for our coach's corner. At 11 o'clock and 1115. We've got to pick and save the student athletes in week one from Brooks released in one from Grafton. And their board they're gonna join us again 11 o'clock. Jake Kraft I think is gonna come in studio with us eleventh fifteenth. I'm Justin Peters yet Justin Peters Choi got a chance to meet last night really were gonna call. And we'll talk to those guys about you know being such Q student athletes were there motivation comes from what their future holds for them. I didn't you know I knew. And it didn't click that he's a starting quarterback for the state championship team. Right yeah he's obviously a good athlete and he was the key part that's they'd championship timlin. But certainly one of the different looks they give you the running him yet coach you know what's funny is is I said to him. And you'll love his answer I said you know as a senior it's hard when there's change you know his new best ball coach come in the end you're used to one way. And you think he's he can and maybe start looking at the younger kids more. He stopped either Millie said I'd know that it's been phenomenal it's been great we really are happy so. I'm congratulations on that Q we talk a little bit about our coach rush your background where you grow up and in in how you got in the coaching. Chair around I started out at UW Oshkosh looking for a coaching minor and really spent a lot of time with the early on coaching staff. It's forty minutes less than our special small town on this month. Great deal of time give me opportunities just to get used in the game and figure out how to how to work with kids and and figure out strategy absent the axis and Els and after that it was it was is getting that degree and trying to find a job and I was fortunate enough to get Matt Ryan Callahan and get my Phelan in the profession where do where did you grow up. Uygur Cumberland Wisconsin did you Bruin high school want to throw high school gym yeah. That's awesome you'll a man to walk that that in that Ron Collie fee only. Palm if you're passionate about basketball. Their passion about their sports and Eric in that community yeah I definitely am in where we are very fortunate obviously to have a really good round for probably about twelve year period and and certainly the community. It's a close knit community they Stan in on the fact that it's a small Catholic school in Wisconsin and then. Certainly the numbers are very supportive of every aspect of the schools so. That was that was the easy part and that the harder part is trying to make sure you know you can develop a program that that they get behind and and certainly our pro out of. So on I July 16 2014. Use size step away. And I'm I read the article. I think he's your thought process was I I wanted it's and all of us I think do when you've done it coach geez from from graft and you went to college for awhile. Always think you know maybe in my younger cheers maybe college should be a great experience that's what I wanna do was out what you were thinking. At that point. I I had a lot of thoughts going through my head you know sixteen years in Cali and it was kind of one of those points Mala threat to decide what I wanna do next and I house again I was very fortunate I had people like coach Luke's mission intact and I coach chuck me UW Oshkosh talking to me in and kinda explaining what the college life was like so. A ticker I guess a two year break you know and and just look that my options and helped on a Marshall high school for a year and just made sure that I I wanted to do exactly what I was gonna get into it for. A long term ends that are you know change your mind after you decide. Wait when you went to Marshall on is who buddy years is that coach there so current good friend of mine from mark Kalish as unity Josh gesture as some McConnell yeah. He has he's today if you wanna come helping you you wanna to skip stay involved in basketball obviously you did here so. I have that opportunity and it was a great experience you know really a a great way to learn how to build the staff because I got in a system step back and and look at what was going on on the floor and figure out those responsibilities were. And also learn from that viewpoint you know how do you. How do you want to be treated if you're not that coach and and how do you become a valuable part of the staff. Yeoman ask both you guys in Indian Emma asked you first because you've been both a head coach and assistant coach. And me personally I'm a better cystic post that was a head coach have been both. But I'm a better assisting coach than I am a head coach and there's a number reasons for that. On a bunch you are you better head coach and you were assistant. Yeah better a coach and assistant but never taken for granted the role of emphasis in an arm of an assistant. You know learn so much from the different guys that I coached on an even at every level so just taking that in demoted in the moral philosophy. How much you coach truck since that same question better system better coach. You know it's a tough question because you know each one does have valuable Earl obviously an advocate defenseman. I hope on veteran coach enthusiastic coach but. You know I was allowed to have a lot of responsibilities Marshall slow wasn't you know I was really active and every practice every game and I think you know that made me. Really mind too much of what I was doing as long as I was contributed you have to do the paperwork right and Arlene looking on paper responsibility and a dodger. But M and it's it's a valuable role that I mean I think each of us are suited as our personalities to either via pattern assist and then. I'm I'm probably agreement personality is this a little bit more and I'm like you're really involved in the game plans and and the sideline coaching so. Probably a little better act in I don't know. All fits if it's carries for the maturity that time that have been an assistant coach it's under coach Walsh out and and we've been really good friends for a long time and he'll allow is. He'll Wallace as an assistant coach for us to talk about and yell and scream pat in the coaches room and then once the door opens up. The number one rule is loyalty. You what were walking staff were were all together and I don't want his job but I'll throw my self referral busts for. But I don't want to catch I've kept up you know I got too much going on and he's so good at it. That lets let me let me be a part of that. Take you we have this conversation yesterday about did this Martin Luther team and we're doing okay were were winning some games. Would I didn't realize coming out of retirement as I should've you know become Dr. Phil in the two years out on from there. Because it year after year it's used to get harder and harder. And that's my role on the good cup Vegas thrown out of practice I had to go pull my arm run talked to get him back into practiced it and we gauge to get him back to work. You know that kind of stuff and I'm pretty good at that. When you're an assistant coach Jack coaches and in college was it everything you thought it was going to be no it was not it was not. Could we have these fantasies in these dreams of yet you you do it caught up in what you see on television. And you think that's how it's going to be. Home. But it was it was totally different. In the number one thing is that it was hard going from being an head coach. To an assistant coach and be an assistant coach underneath veteran guys that have been in the profession and I've been in the professional level. And after really humble yourself and take in there so that was atop the sport I coach Showalter few weeks ago. And he said. You know the tough part was I thought I knew a lot about basketball team and I do know of how basketball but then you get to that level. And they make kind of make you feel it you don't know all that much about basketball and wall. And he said that I get to that next wobble. And now I'm an assistant coach and the white conceal how but this. Now it's our way notices the way were going with yet yeah yeah you have suggestions. As assistance we all has suggestions. But I'll ghosts and suggestions maybe zero of them. Who would go through so that's the toughest part you know adjusting. Arm and no one that is not your program but at the same time learning so much you know observing learning and still give an important. He's David James Head basketball coach at Grafton. And it's good to have him back have always been a big fan we met on the silent to a football game no time down a Kenosha Bradford. And from you know five minutes in the talking view I've I've I've been a big Fanny years been a fan a coach rocks from afar. This the first time maybe the second time actually we've got a chance tuck he does remember the shows up at the quarter run Collie for a scrimmage south through to many candidate. He snapped on me for something out of him murderer was I thought man that's not a nice guy and that I need you know what he is a good catch head coach separate released. Where it talks these guys but taken over programs. Taken over the for a few lease program. Taken over the Grafton program and will give more indeed it did that on the other side of the break this is the Wendy's Farsi blitz high school basketball coaches shall. Presented by your local pick and saves source I'd sports pretty 1057 FM. The fans. And Reyes. It's here's and use. Welcome back at Wendy's or she puts high school basketball coaching show presented. Player multiple pick and save stores I scored 31057. FM the fan's. David James the head basketball coach at crafted Joseph rocks from Brookfield east. Are joining me that you guys won. Against knew that it is the area the other one back to the area. How Joseph let me start with you. Hate Milwaukee's a lot bigger man talked entered in Berlin. Are you enjoying this are living in this area. Actually love it I mean obviously the city has threatened our back yard effort for brook filling itself in having the opportunity to go in and do and every need to do and get away from. Really everything take a break it is always sensible where sometimes a smaller communities years you're there and you're going to be there for an entire time here coaching. Responsibilities. It's nice and everything's at your fingertips merits what's hard to gonna have appeared try to get away from it without somebody sit down Hussein how come you not play in this chair right and you don't have that here now and you can go pretty much anywhere and merit don't see people from here you're school districts though. It's it's great because you drive into work every day and you do your job with and you go home and and supper and. Little bit as well yeah are you in the building. Yeah I'm a social studies teacher broke loose pucks went you don't mind if I live Buffy the -- I which really close in my. Mother while lose and Willie and Burleigh about. They may be just a little bit to the south of the school in that pick her up every Sunday taker per cent Baptist Church which is. A mile from pro Philly so I'm in that area. Quite a bit. He had. The ex football coach Tom swindle is my cohost for wonderful post shows that they do and and he retired from from from co chief. But mended through the Brookfield east TE he can't talk enough about. The if the family part of it and how the parents really do a home support the program at least on the football side so that's pretty cool. Yeah I mean we've we've seen that as well on the basketball assign a minute if there there a great community in terms of their aspirations of their goals for the kids and we're fortunate our administration's really solid. And Andy furcal is really so I think a lot of that community at western culture. Comes from the top and you know on the supported by the parents are like hockey Blakey follies is a trick Afghanistan. Yeah he really is and it over a crafted. On coached a little bit different you know brook feel least I think is had more success. In in their athletics for Kraft and his is try and and and and and getting out of that conference. Would what's your feeling on the and the new conference stuff and yet that's going to be interest and you know looking at the schedule next year you only have four nonconference games because of the the change you have Germans now even you have walk openly and and then you have. You know the western schools' common it. And so it'll change the dynamic you sit well yeah. It's its interest seek his graphs has had some success on the girls side was sports. In my mom used to live in Grafton and a lot of but that that community. And it's a change you treat you got some some you know people have lived there long time. And those are view they're good in the tough kinda tough then you know not far but but kind of moon and then it's it's it's expanding suit against the new kind of families come an end. Andi think anything about Kraft and surprise you at all. You know it's all surprised to be here on this. They number one a great great community great community tar on the support from the parents. All they make us go and it it's curiosity at every sport though with football soccer great support. But. If it's a different it's different it can no show no I don't Bradford especially at Indian trail you know all of a sudden you look at what that's done to the athletics in Kenosha and Sam Bradford football wise they were the beast in trapper was right there. Indian trail is taken look at the basketball there. There's the three bottom teams in that Cog Hill on the we're talking about that last night and what it did though what is it helped prepare forget that new football stadium which is beautiful and they they needed that they did that for a long time yeah but the but the difference is your right it the diversity is different. But not an of that way you know it it really is and I really think that it's become a more diverse. In Grafton. If you going to ASEAN it's getting there and and I think. You know I've known a number of coaches now that were before you can argue Kevin and and Bob was there an aunt. You know trying to get that youth program word pass to beat and keeping kids within the border I think is the key temperate feel least. You know you're competing a little bit with the mark cats and the pious is the world in key keep kids. You know free that are going from youth program to stay. You know I think that that's going to be the key for you Joseph do you think has wall. Emmitt I think any youth program is certainly. It's going to be your life your lifeline success in the future so coach James and I were talking and kind of pick each other's brands about the best ways to do and and and certainly getting used to you know having to run a great youth program with a lot of kids who want to play them and that's one big difference from Brookfield east. Throughout valiantly at eighty kids in our youth program that was tremendous separate blisters on an 86 and that's. A big day a big difference kids that are teaching you ran youth program around colleague indeed in minutes walk. Is it's hard here in in a private schools to run youth program rattle again our community is a little bit more closed in Milwaukee something you know for the most part is coming around Alley you know other via. In a family soon. Hula and their parents of one their attendant and they might in a different community but all along you know they've tapped in there on talent family. Or it's year your private schools that are right in the matter block district so it. It's not as how I don't know I don't know how to say it but it's that it's really cut and dry and there and now he's. No via and we talked on the phone and innate ancestors a kid that I coached him. And his dad listens to the show or looses the podcast for years. I just I say yes and that can drunk college he is a run tally kind of player match and he should know we're gonna you know we at Lincoln is where. You know my older son why didn't. Now the youngest one hasn't meant to a Lutheran they're there it in all the schools and mentor but run Collie guys had packed yes and and he had an opportunity to take a job and I along wealth Korean obviously coaching at atlas and now. It sounds can play for you and yes no doubt about that there's and that young you're sworn can he he can definitely shoot the ball. He of Dave let's tackle will bit about this year's team. I looked at that did the roster and I've got it there with you lot of seniors meant it's unbelievable you won't Alter your way or you. You have as many seniors it's something that I've never experienced. And to be honest we play like eleven guys. And that's something I really have never experienced but they are such great Q it's amid a whole roster seniors but why what we want you have what one and are a feel Baffert hill. They never get that playing time but you know that's that's kind of part of it. We'll greats do it's great families. Did you come into it and and and think. And two I need to blow this thing out and did answer played some younger kids or to like keep these kids together has looked. I Joseph maybe you've seen it before. I've never seeming like test you know I had a kids last week from a Martin Luther that I had were soon to show at Brookfield central. I had a c'mon is he's a senior at Martin Luther and he knew he wasn't you get a get a lot of playing time check Mueller. But you know what he's stuck it out for four years then and we have two seniors on the roster one who didn't make the team last year Sonny who we came out again this your recap dump. And he doesn't get any playing time. It is like you know I have so what's respect for kids that stays in their four years even though they know they're not to play a lot. Will you got managed what third Italian album here I know and it era. We did think about that I thought about that but once you really get to know Mark Hughes was a really got to know marquis has built the relationship. You know slight week we can't we got to keep these via their dear great for the building blocks of what we want to do in the future for the program. Then I hope nobody's offended in crashed by the sex question. But you went from Kenosha Bradford realized athletes all over the place to division one where each had some premier athletes in. Graft and hardworking kids not a lot of high fine athletes know it's. Not blow it the thing that separates some not. You know take anything away from Kenosha. For like these kids have had a good IQ come and it. Like they really could pick up things very quickly what we were trying to do in the concepts. And so that has helped occur that's helped deal what we wanna do. How is his JV team. A thirteen and three OK yeah thirteen a three we've we've got a young kid on the air who would be pretty good. But for the most part they all play well together. And we have a mix and so washing about it we got some good cars down so keeping them together was important for you no question. No question and we're in our youth programs good staff before. They did a good job of putting that thing together and our youth program. They got a runs it does a great job you know I mean I'm leaving here to go to use tournament today no Zaki my son's plan and it's so that's a big piece of what. Or is he a third you have four of four kids yeah three girls one boy that's awesome I know he might Rihanna and view. Know that I yeah I know I do because once Matthew get done play about spot mirror and after Baptist Bible College. It just like ends me and I got these three grandsons Lou across a street. There I think seven and five they get a game today at 3 or 4 o'clock on over there but it's. It's not the same Mets not the same so I envy. You'll lot with that this this junior class that that's the future and for us to. I believe so I really do along with some of the other kids. The JV I'm sure this off day more video V team media will be good arm like a set our income and eighth graders will be good and we have size and there. We have a kid that his Brooke two Brothers the bench walls they've played a ball that Wisconsin yeah and so he's the following write their footsteps is par like 65 right now as it straighter as many Australia so if the futures. Definitely looking looking bright and graft and maybe he needs to get religion double. Yeah. That's called recruited me I just yeah I'm not that I west. Credited your welfare as you remember those days at rider college we can't recruit but we can recommend it highly suggest that. That's not you legal according the derby way. We're gonna talk about other brook Phillies team will bet on the other side of the break wanna kinda get your feeling when you walked in and and down any surprises free for you and went talk Alou would have buchert conferences while both conferences. And these are some good fastball conferences you knew coming in right coach Rex that this. Yeah I mean certainly around talks but the greater metro and you look the coaches who aren't on the sidelines for every tournament. It's certainly are a lot of while respecting guys yet they're really you notes you that that win against Bruce central opens my eyes. Opened at number except on what kind of nervous Salem I like the and one drew loud we're buddies men that when open. He -- man I you never want to lose to brute released through we did in and you guys have owned a mobile but the football part. And now basketball and will talk to you on the other said the break if you understand. That Sam rivalry part with them yet. This is the Wendy's mercy wood's high school basketball coaches show presented by your local pick and save stores. On sports Radio One 057 at them. The fans. And Reyes. Oh. Oh walked back to when he's versatile it's high school basketball coaches show presented. By your local Pickens save stores on sports Radio One 057 that from the fan. I'm likely giver alongside Mike you guessed continue to walk you want is for sure Joseph rocks he's a head coach effort feel least. In David James who's the head coach a Grafton back to our area. You were happy to come back in us. I was it was sun yeah yeah it it was time he's his home now Wisconsin home free and second home. Yeah Parcells Cleveland yeah that's always will be home but yeah second home in a Browns fan and I am. Anyway so just rocks yeah early last year I don't know I hit a I've got Boggs is you. You can just go back and say book of India be cavalier fail which he got now but. You're too nice to have man Pablo I'm loyal that's where you're where bad book I'll stick would. Meant good for you. Yet while. I wanna see something good but bronzes don't know with Joseph got a little bit and he's got off the Thibodeau I don't want you follows got the Astros did Johnny men Zeller is he says that but I just you know that's bad and that. He Joseph let's talk a little bit about the greater metro. Conference a right now as it stands for a central nine in one. That one key for the Hanson root for at least by the way without me falls 73 toes he's right there you guys says he channel ten. With south central Marquette I think is is struggle Luke more than people may have thought. Dominant Yemen if they've certainly got it gets him in terms of size and their athletic ability and that are gonna macho stuff I mean you've got enough teams that can be to each other in any given night and I think yeah. I think you see that in terms of the scores that she looked at me and tell sees Kozo last time it's phenomena falls and so. He just don't know who's gonna win each night what are you look on those benches and you would mention that but. Always you know be west south central Rory or West Coast fell right now. Is is one and eight but. Meant Aussie does it could shop he's a good coach KC at Marquette allies tickets central Stew rolling. I mean our door for toast he says the there's anything he has seen that that. That coaching around three in in the greater metro conference from you look at them together that's a tough conference a committee coach and now with you would Showalter their. I'd I talked to one of the coaches you said man are you kidding me. He can tell we we're feeling pretty good there for men and all of us in the two coaches that join our conference. So lot of respect for you guys is who with these other coaches but managed these guys have been around a while. And I definitely am minutes and so I'm in of the every night you're gonna get something new in terms of of who you're playing and you gotta be pretty prepared. The deal of those matchups. And makes it challenging Hammond that's a lot of or you doubt about it and you knew come an end I mean you fully embrace that you you don't mind being a part of that and arm in. It and you know you mentioned earlier the Brookfield central game you know how. How I don't quite understand that rather than I think when you talk to Jake he'll be able to confirm I don't and it the bottom line is you know. No matter where you're coaching you're trying to prepare the best that you can and you're trying to forget about we are flying you try and forget about matchups and just looking at what can you do to be successful. So we've we've tried to just take that San. Approach coats never yours Detroit did area high school football coaches show. We're on location at a car dealership in Brookfield so I had some players super feel centric mull over. And then I had some players who broke Phillies come over its separate times. And I asked both groups it when you pitcher your schedule. Who do you circle. Because super feel centrists and are you kidding Brooks released the kids from Brooks who we said are you kidding for Phil centro one kid said. Marquette and allows guys Marquette to all of their Ers 109 other kids that said. Now because I see these guys in the summertime. And I want to be you'll say what that we will Q I think we way oval only had three wins but we got you so. Though those games and and the salary reporter for the ya my 24 ice before or new week. And we try to do the pro feel sent to work really skipped much possible. Just because of that rivalry and it does it matter that it's not a Friday night it's a Thursday night. Because the pack and at the fans are there it's steamy room only and the people from from that community really amount so. Yeah we had a pact affection for that game and I'm season and we really had to. To play well and in both sides are planned their best basketball on the play children and certainly the kids you can see it ramps up a little bit mark in terms of the intensity and CNN since sections slots it's a fun night. Day. I've seen Brooke for a center play that's a good pass both him and there that. Their some play homestead when he watched a Mormon up you thought man almost it's so am the ball long and root central just drove. I mean their guards are good M yeah that's a good team. Right it reminds me of someone it's only that their kids that you would coach Aaron Kelly Dan thanks a lot of some when I watched him play a lot and scout him a few games they remind me exactly that they are kids who can shoot the basketball and certainly. In a lot of kids who can cut moved so they're not tall memento journals but no integrity and defense and I play that well heart that was the other. That sophomore guard Nick Cage is is he's good and he's he's a tough tough player you guys get them at home. Coming up on the seventeenth did you get a couple of games prior to that. Of David do you have you looked at I'm sure we've all looked at regionals and who's in their regional at Sutton his coaches we never work we. We have we don't look at what we worked at right in the at the south that that we talk about. And we always wanted to make sure that were played our best basketball. At the end of the year. Tips that you can give other coaches you guys -- wrap up what you're doing due to short what you're doing yet. You know what is it as a coach this time a year. With three weeks to go what are you looking due to a comp. Was yeah we we still want to keep everything intense everything aren't everything urgent but we will shorten up because were mar four preserve embodies. You know a lot of shots and religious folks in on the details and execution morning thing. Joseph same question you bent. But Q you know you've gone deep and so yea you know you've been through that that troll that a lot of us wanna kid to any two of switching give younger coach is always. We've shortened up to them in last that we want to an hour and a half and went hard for an hour of what we had to do and spend time should I mean it. If you're asking a lot of high school kids to to play intense defense get up and on the court. And I come to practice next in replicate that so just being mindful of where they're at trying to get a read for. You know where where their bodies are antsy you know pushing to the point where they're not productive the next game. Edge in and I think our goal every year's two in the conference right in and I think you guys had to Ed are you six and four in conference right. I believe so yeah I nine and 1 is is Brookfield central. So there's an outside chance they'd have to fall you have to drop a couple and one would be do you guys. Do you start to change your mindset at all you don't let the kids know you've got one next year but. You know now we have to make sure that that OK four if we're not gonna win the comforts we got to make sure there were ready to go come playoff. It's to be honest I haven't changed my mindset at all when you're Jake you can tell instances sitting next to him that Nash any secrets here but I've I've talked every damn about let's just on the next on. And you know for mental and a conference title we will performances. Go deep in the class we will outlets were about the one from us. Figure he can naturally quick before you to break the staff since you have. Did you keep did you hold over some of the guys separate Phillies. We started from scratch and I got really fortunate obviously. I've done for early on my staff right on Roscoe myself both guys in this area who. Who are known minutes coaches wolf had coaches and assistant coaches and certainly if you look at that falls in right now you can you can see bounds work and very very good players on that him and he's brought that attitude of us and look I'm fortunate I'm not a great staff. Who Syria and yeah we started from scratch as well we got a good staff there are dedicated they were world with the kids. I don't have an alumni he's my Marcy assistance so he's very passionate about Grafton and making a great. And I was out after we get ten talking you know I keel I'd left my seat and in they view they only had three benches are so. And by the time we get done talking those seats from there were taken so I just said at the end of the Grafton bench last night yet. And I you're assisting coach and a freshman. He gets after he says yes he does he brings that toughness and he does a good job with those cute yes both the head coach two men you don't what was in stressing to me. Is is there communication between each other really good they do and that was one of rain their bear from two different. Walks of life but they have the same vision and has the making kids better so it's it's fantastic it was I was impressed with that but I all he caught me off guard. His use pretty quiet for a while. But but then all of soon you got up and you weren't happy about self. And what kind of scared realized that guys got us here now you'd met and skiers made let's get to breakers celebrate Billy Schwartz you don't really have you met nearly Schwartz I have the Billy Schwartz from curly universities to join us. And our coaches corner he's got a couple of love of staple drills that they do on a daily basis that Carroll there really talk to him about. Again on the other side of break this is the Wendy's varsity puts high school basketball coaches show presented. By your local pick and save stores on sports treaty 1057 FM the fans. Do you ever wonder why a coach does what he does. What's his coaching philosophy. From offense or defense to special teams it's time for the coach's corner. Brought you by the brightest dreading college athletic department's. Through that. Sunspot 53 weeks it's a couple of homestead football coaches in advanced game that tantalize 53 weeks. Go to walk FaceBook no official paying the lines to take the wind officially she's being checked them out. Baruch College coaches week he's one out no one time when you guys know who's while. In dad he is good news Syria forever meant do we Schwartz kuril university Billy how you doing today. Great game day itself could be any batter. Yeah you can't beat that man we all love we love game days you guys get on the bus said tell 11 o'clock were you hadn't. We have a big game tonight down and now bloom and then that guy so let's. Both tied for up. Sport plates right now it's six and four in the seats at W and there's four spots. Conference tournament. Similar type of work out five games last. He Billy we are joined in and will get to talk to what she crop and the other side of breaking news or pick and save student half to the week. And I know some of these kids who Grafton are listed as some of the players from. Burke released or listen and and you've coach stepped both levels of coasted to at high school of coasting college. You're your brother Julian is that George attack so I think you guys really understand what it takes the plate the next level. It and we've got young student athletes juniors and seniors Lewis in the show. What would you tell these guys that they're jury we're about trying to playing college what it takes to play at that level. Replied with a lot of blocking graduate you know Agile and Damon starts. You know new programs and and obviously Jake being in studio and Marco out to see what's at least a couple times this year and and a great start troubles both teams I'm. I think I think one is you know you just gotta have the heart. You know and and that drives. You know on the determination because. You know when you go from the high school level two outs bubble. Arm you know this season are a little bit longer. Arm and no matter what aging or acts. Mean it's really really really good basketball. It's if anybody. Has been out to see a play especially this year movement and that he's yet W. Armed you know peachtree hoops back top ranked SE set up your number one conference and there's three this year. It's just you know it's just a man's game. And I think those are our three big things and and that's you know high school student athletes at bats all you know it's it definitely helps. He Billie I'd love and looking that your roster and as you know. I only let college coaches on this show that'll give that give our kids a chance from the state of Wisconsin to play at the next level. And I know that Carroll university. You guys do a great job of of recruiting. This area and the entire state or Wisconsin you look at at this year's roster and it's probably 70%. Wisconsin kids. And and talking do you yesterday said look we don't wanna up that and fuel bet. We knew we want to make sure that we are not went many but he get out of state that we think would be a good fit first you're Carroll university. And that's sad that so it almost a mission statement for you guys. Well actually eat it and it would I'll dol you know from from the youth levels. You know on a high school levels I am out there. There's great basketball. Got me you know high school coaches put him so much try. We sold accurate quotes states and you look at the talent level you know what not all the division three basketball. States in the grass you know all those programs have adult years. You know parks I there's two Cotchery on a great job the last few years there it. And obviously but the this one pulled out it as well while it's dumb it's really important and. I think you know 70%. You know is great Chiefs that if we can get a few more players. Column you know from the specially. The Milwaukee in Addison area. I'll tell up to apples and that would be yeah. You know be great for our program. He Billy with the coach's corner we tart but this little bit less side is there a staple drill or too that you guys Stewart Carroll university. That for that they coaches grade school and high school coaches that are Lewis to the show that. I get man I get calls every week. Hey I naturally guy was talking about did you take notes and I'd take notes all the time on these things. Can you give us a driller to that Carroll university that you'll coach Combs you guys do every day can you believe it makes your team better. Are right I'm gonna try to simple. But for everybody. We we tried. I think I school coaches do as well we try to. You know simulate our drills in practice. To a much schemes speed as possible. Onslaught we've gone I'm there's two parts. To the journal that out blame mom. You know he can take your traditional Shell drill. And and then we kinda revamp that and I'll dunks things to exit to tweak our system and then expand off itself. Bomb. Basically what this real new. Is it's gonna optic communication. Of the players especially on defense and then that forces you to that act and acted. On the three things that remarks things that we lot on in this to real arm on the defense of that especially when it starts. Off number one we just want to slow the basketball found. And hand out and try to eliminate them wants one pass when that back in. Odd number two we we always one or skip pass your time arc Ahmad beat them. And then number three you know we want to box outs we call it it. Fine and then go get the ball so I'm basically we ever you know traditional shelter also let's put it but strong upright I'll. Omelet often it's a one man on the wing or corner offensive to I guess to be your point our offense at three. Would be the other guard and an offensive or last corner so legal often the one right on ops went to two on the I'm not in the point guard position offense in three would be in the other guard position last Florida offense for. Last corner so what we'll do is act or traditional so I'll will start would've called on the baseline underneath the hoop let the ball. In that we start with three defenders. All right so. Those three defenders on can either be in. In the paint area we start and kind of underneath stuff wanna charge circle got college. And so he's gotten down there and you can circle those three or you can just album. You know stationary and then once that coat lined the ball out too often where. Are right and then we about sports that senator who now comes in. Right underneath the rim where the coach what he's going to be in the place. All right so let's say that coach lines the ball out offensive to. Our rights all. Pop what state defender one goes to offense the person want right. Let's say job defender Q most offensive to. Who has the ball and looks a defender to read now is gonna art. The next closest pats look to be off that third guy all right so basically we have three guys. Party four and were on the ball. And work in the gap offense of wanna in the gap streak. Follow me yeah. Okay so now when the ball moves okay we have to move. It's gonna force our guide to communicate because were kind of scramble situation right now. So let's say the ball goes from offensive law opulence of cute off a corner. An hour on the ball mom. Would defender Juan where in a gap with the for under two and then that's under three kind of drops down toward free throw line. Arms some people call program line call to top the our eyes and then Aram were trying to force it skipped past. So let's say mom. Offense that one. Skips its offense factory. Okay and now plots one guy which is offensive or is now. Corner he's wide open it's so we need to take that perhaps the way it's best we can't. That buys some time which is probably going to be either so the ball can move up and you can play how many ever practice you want. And we also allow our offensive guys to play out the pop out so it's basically a wide turtle go. All right young now on. Whatever shot goes up furcal called shot or we like after the shot want the shot go off. I'm that's when we say that the game against. All right so that sport that standard now that that come in and he's got a gold box out he opened. All right as well as the other three defenders and now becomes four on four if the offense makes this shot or the offense. It's a rebound we kill you start over. Or I if not we are gonna transition. And we're gonna go down and back four and four. Right it is what it is second part of the drill comes in and and and I really liked this part and and losers Ron. All of Artrell and we play at two point game. So you've got to win and you know two not that are to want to win a game how you get off point. Is when you convert down in when you convert back. If you convert down often to obviously become the outs. And you read you need to get a stop on that forehand and then coming back you need to get a after. War if you are converting offensive defense become up that people doubt mom you score you got to come back and you gotta stop. Let's see how you get up that's how you get a point. It's if it's it's it's somebody scores. Off on one hand and they come back and the other team scored on the other hand there's no blood and it stopped by that and they come back and you know it can get that stop there's no blood. Euro's herald but I'll stop and about the basket and stop and that if you do get that point we sub and switch it. And and that's how we play like her first game the two. When the game and got a game can take a game could take five minute ticket take you know it Peter. As the drew Billy say if his blood is an extra point. Oh. I think I could. Hit. But it it is a great thrill and an obviously everybody. Are all principles. You know aren't scramble all of the journal start everybody got their own defense of a lot of C we just try to play live right away. Com and and so we do allow upsides to penetrate the gaps even older eat out. Com but I think the big thing is that offense when he starts under its offense scores. Bomb. Then you got it till it got to start all over again in yet figured out. Man. Hey woo wee kid next time list used to segments and you Billy I know you gotta get on the bus. Good luck it ill and until it Illinois Wesleyan tonight at 7 o'clock I'm Louis since it's always could talk India. Thanks thanks again for having us on and. And rip central university and obviously. You know it's great it's straight solid always and anybody that want to come out to a game we knew we got three. All the victory in a row starting next Saturday. Check out our schedule we got to march 13 come in and bought the next Saturday's possibly get in the top ten in the country and then the ball and went in north park will be. You know top fifteen by them as well so. I'll invite everybody to come out it's it's as you guys now. Vision three division two as well about outskirts. It's it's the best that's Billy Schwartz. To have us safe travels year reviewing your team Billy out to RT sent. Out about. -- with you got it guys it's kid to a break goes says the break our student athlete of the week is here along with his grand current. And we're gonna talk to him. He is a a nice showing man that deserves this award and we'll talk to cheat crop. On the other side this is the Wendy's varsity blitzed high school basketball coaches show presented.
